Well, it’s official. The holidays are now done, and it’s time to get back to work and life in general. There are many people who feel like they have to drag their feet in order to get back themselves back into their daily routine, and it’s normal to feel especially reluctant to get up when that alarm goes off on Monday morning. Do you find yourself wondering “why am I always tired?” It’s possible that you might be dealing with something that is far beyond the normal post-holiday-blahs. Maybe it’s got more to do with your body and its needs that have, so far, been hard to decipher.
So…why am I always tired?
Here are some of the most common reasons to be feeling the fatigue more than usual on a Monday morning. Some are easy fixes and others can be a little more challenging.
• You’re dehydrated: Most people don’t realize how easy it is to become dehydrated. We should be drinking, on average, 8 glasses of water a day (plus water from foods and other drinks). However, many people drink less than 3 glasses of water a day and only have minimal hydration. Then there’s the fact that we live off of coffee and tea and other diuretics. Hydration continues to that constant fatigue fog.
• You’re sleeping too much: It seems strange that oversleeping can lead to fatigue, but it absolutely can. If you are feeling exhausted as soon as you wake up, try setting up a sleep window for 8 hours a night and then stick to it each and every night, even on the weekends. This will help regulate your sleeping patterns and keep you from under- or over-sleeping.
• You have a food intolerance: Dealing with mind fog and that constant feeling of fatigue is also a symptom of a food intolerance. If you have ruled out other options, or you just want to know for sure, take a food intolerance test and give yourself access to results that could help you adapt your diet and no longer catch yourself saying “why am I always tired?”. Fatigue could be gone with just a simple food switch.
• You aren’t treating your body right: From exercise to diet to screen usage, we put a lot of abuse on our bodies. After a time, they start to fail and struggle. A lot of times, you’ll simply notice that you are feeling exhausted all the time. If this sounds like something that you are dealing with, consider the idea of changing your life in some small but significant ways: less screen time, more exercise, and better eating. Your body will respond as well and offer you that little extra pep you’re searching for.
It’s nice to think that you’re just feeling a little slow as you get back to the daily grind again after the holidays, but if you are noticing yourself wondering “why am I always tired?” in the morning afternoon and even evening, it’s possible that something else is going on to make you feel that way other than the holiday hangover. These tips will help you get to the bottom of it.
